Celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving 2026

By Michael & Mary Agronah

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” — Psalm 107:1

Happy Thanksgiving, Canada! 🇨🇦🍁

Another Thanksgiving Day is here, and once again, we have a wonderful opportunity to pause, reflect, and give thanks to God for His goodness.

Across Canada, families and friends will gather around tables to share meals, laughter, stories, and precious moments together. For many, the aroma of roasted turkey, the joy of family reunions, and the beauty of autumn make Thanksgiving a special occasion.

But as we have shared in our Thanksgiving reflections over the years, Thanksgiving is about much more than the food on our tables. It is about the gratitude in our hearts.

Some families will gather around tables filled with food, while others may have very little. Some will celebrate surrounded by loved ones, while others will spend the day alone. Some are rejoicing over answered prayers, while others are still waiting on God for a breakthrough.

Yet, through every season, one truth remains unchanged:

God is good, and His love endures forever!

1. Looking Back: We Have So Much to Thank God For

One of the beautiful things about Thanksgiving is that it invites us to remember.

Sometimes, we become so occupied with our daily responsibilities, challenges, and expectations that we forget how far God has brought us.

Think about the past year.

Perhaps you experienced moments of joy, success, and answered prayers. Perhaps you also encountered disappointments, uncertainties, or unexpected difficulties.

But through it all, God has remained faithful.

You may not have received everything you prayed for, but consider the blessings you have already experienced.

The breath of life. The gift of salvation. The love of family and friends. Daily provision. Opportunities to learn and grow. The strength to face another day.

Even the seemingly ordinary things we often overlook are reasons to give thanks.

Psalm 103:2 reminds us:

“Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”

How easily we remember what we lack while forgetting what we have received!

This Thanksgiving, let us intentionally remember the goodness of God.

2. Thanksgiving Is Not Only for When Life Is Going Well

One lesson we continue to learn in our walk with God is that gratitude should not depend entirely on our circumstances.

It is easy to thank God when prayers are answered, doors are opening, and life is going according to plan.

But what happens when things are different?

What happens when we are still waiting for healing, employment, restoration, financial provision, or answers to important prayers?

The Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18:

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Notice that Scripture encourages us to give thanks in all circumstances, not necessarily for every painful circumstance.

We do not have to pretend that suffering is pleasant or that disappointments do not hurt.

Rather, we can thank God because His character remains unchanged.

We can thank Him for His presence when we feel alone, His strength when we are weak, His peace when we are anxious, and His grace when the journey becomes difficult.

Our circumstances may change, but God's faithfulness does not.

This is one of the central messages we hope to share through our Thanksgiving journey this year.

3. This Year, We Are Going Beyond Thanksgiving Day!

For several years, we have shared Thanksgiving reflections, Scriptures, and messages encouraging families and individuals to recognize God's goodness.

This year, we are taking that commitment a little further!

Through our Christianity & Lifestyle ministry, we have begun a special devotional series titled:

21 Days of Thanksgiving to God

21 Days. 21 Devotionals. One Heart of Thanksgiving!

Rather than limiting thanksgiving to one day, we are intentionally setting aside 21 days to reflect on God's goodness, pray, worship, and develop a more grateful heart.

Each day focuses on a specific reason to give thanks.

Our journey is divided into three themes:

Week 1: Remembering God's Goodness (Days 1–7)

We begin by thanking God for who He is and what He has done: the gift of life, salvation through Jesus Christ, His unfailing love, daily provision, divine protection, and His wonderful works.

Week 2: Thanksgiving in Every Season (Days 8–14)

We reflect on God's faithfulness through family relationships, answered prayers, seasons of waiting, weakness, difficult circumstances, and the guidance He provides along life's journey.

Week 3: A Lifestyle of Thanksgiving (Days 15–21)

We conclude by thanking God for spiritual growth, the Holy Spirit, the body of Christ, the opportunities He provides, the hope of eternity, and the privilege of offering our lives as a sacrifice of praise.

Our prayer is that, by the end of these 21 days, thanksgiving will become more than something we practise during a holiday.

We want thanksgiving to become a lifestyle.

4. Join Our 21 Days of Thanksgiving Devotional Series

We warmly invite you, your family, friends, and prayer partners to participate in this journey with us.

Every day on our Christianity & Lifestyle YouTube channel, we share a short devotional designed to take approximately three minutes.

Each devotional includes a Bible passage, a reflection on God's goodness, a thanksgiving prayer, and an invitation to reflect personally on what you are grateful for.

You can participate from wherever you are, whether during your morning quiet time, on your lunch break, or with your family in the evening.

You can begin with Day 1 and follow the journey at your own pace.

5. Download Our 21 Days of Thanksgiving Devotional & Gratitude Journal

To accompany the video series, we have also prepared a beautifully designed 44-page devotional and gratitude journal.

The journal contains all 21 daily devotionals, Bible references, thanksgiving prayers, personal reflection questions, and daily declarations of faith.

One feature we particularly love is the gratitude journaling section.

Each day, we encourage participants to write down at least three things they are thankful to God for.

They do not have to be extraordinary testimonies.

Perhaps today you are grateful for a peaceful night's rest, a conversation with a loved one, an opportunity to work, or simply the strength to face another day.

As you continue writing, you may begin to recognize blessings you previously overlooked.

And when you look back over the 21 days, you will have a beautiful personal record of God's goodness in your life.

We encourage you to share the devotional with your family, friends, and prayer partners.

6. Teaching Our Children to Be Thankful

Thanksgiving is also a wonderful opportunity to teach children the importance of gratitude.

In a world where we are constantly encouraged to desire more, children can benefit greatly from learning to appreciate what they already have.

As parents and through our Christianity & Lifestyle for Kids ministry, we believe that teaching children to recognize God's goodness is an important part of nurturing their faith.

Children can learn to thank God for their families, friends, food, homes, teachers, and the wonderful world He has created.

They can also learn that prayer is not only about asking God for things. It is also about expressing love, worship, and appreciation to Him.

One joyful way to encourage this is through music!

We invite you and your children to enjoy our special children's thanksgiving song:

🎶 Thank You, God! — A Thanksgiving Song for Kids

Sing along with your children, talk about the blessings mentioned in the song, and encourage them to name three things they are thankful for.

You might be surprised by the beautiful and simple things children notice!

7. Let Our Thanksgiving Become a Blessing to Others

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, let us also remember those who may be going through difficult times.

In our previous Thanksgiving reflections, we have often emphasized the importance of remembering people who may not have the same opportunities or resources we enjoy.

Some people are experiencing loneliness. Others are struggling financially, grieving the loss of loved ones, or facing uncertainty about the future.

As followers of Christ, our thanksgiving should not end with words.

It should also inspire acts of love and kindness.

Consider inviting someone who may be alone to share a meal, reaching out to encourage a struggling friend, supporting a family in need, or praying with someone who is facing a difficult season.

Hebrews 13:16 reminds us:

“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

When we recognize how much God has blessed us, we become more willing to extend His love to others.

A grateful heart should also be a generous heart.

8. Three Questions to Reflect on This Thanksgiving

Before the celebrations end, we encourage you to find a quiet moment and reflect on these three questions:

1. What are three things God has done for me this year that I am especially grateful for?

Think about both the extraordinary blessings and the everyday gifts you may have overlooked.

2. How has God sustained me through a difficult season?

Perhaps you are still waiting for answers, but can you identify ways God has strengthened, comforted, or provided for you along the journey?

3. How can I express my gratitude to God through my actions?

Is there someone you can encourage, forgive, help, or bless this Thanksgiving?

Write down your reflections. Pray over them. Share them with your family.

And most importantly, let them inspire you to live with a grateful heart.

9. A Thanksgiving Prayer for You and Your Family

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with hearts filled with gratitude.

Thank You for the precious gift of life. Thank You for Your love, mercy, protection, and daily provision.

Thank You for the gift of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank You for our families, friends, and loved ones. Thank You for every person You have used to encourage, support, and bless us.

Father, we recognize that not everyone is celebrating this Thanksgiving in the same circumstances.

We pray for those who are lonely, grieving, struggling financially, or waiting for answers to their prayers.

May Your love comfort them, Your peace strengthen them, and Your provision meet their needs.

Help us to become instruments of Your kindness and generosity.

As we continue our 21 Days of Thanksgiving journey, open our eyes to see Your goodness in every season.

Teach us to be grateful not only when life is comfortable, but also when we are learning to trust You through uncertainty.

May our homes be filled with praise, our conversations with testimonies, and our lives with acts of love.

Above all, may we never forget that every good and perfect gift comes from You.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray.

Amen!

10. Happy Thanksgiving, Canada — Let the Gratitude Continue!

As we celebrate Thanksgiving 2026, our encouragement to you is simple:

Be happy. Be grateful. Be content.

Enjoy the meals, cherish the moments with loved ones, and celebrate the blessings God has given you.

But when Thanksgiving Day is over, let your gratitude continue.

When the decorations are put away and everyday responsibilities resume, may your heart remain filled with praise.

Remember, you may not have everything you desire, but you can still recognize the goodness of God in your life.

We invite you to join us for the remainder of our 21 Days of Thanksgiving to God and make gratitude an intentional part of your daily walk with Christ.

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” — Psalm 100:4

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! 🍁❤️

With love and blessings,

Michael & Mary Agronah
